Recently Adopted Ordinances

At their December 6th meeting, the Town Council adopted three new ordinances regarding a commercial cannabis moratorium, a new requirement to place food waste and yard waste in residential green carts,  and amendments to the smoking regulations. Ordinance No. 812, An Urgency Interim Zoning Ordinance Adopted Pursuant to Government Code Section 65858 Extending for a Period of Ten (10) Months and Fifteen (15) Days the Temporary Moratorium In All Zoning Districts on the Establishment, Creation or Expansion of Any and All Commercial Cannabis Uses, with Exceptions, Pending the Completion of Studies and the Preparation of an Update to the Town’s Municipal and Zoning Codes.

Ordinance No. 813, an Ordinance to Amend the Town Municipal Code, Chapter 8.08 (Garbage and Rubbish Disposal), Section 8.08.050 (Duties of Owners and Occupants) to Require Source Separation of Recyclable and Compostable Materials from Solid Waste.

Ordinance No. 814, an Ordinance Amending Chapter 8.44 of the Fairfax Municipal Code, Title 8, Entitled “Clean Indoor and Outdoor Air and Health Protection - Smoking Regulations” to Prohibit Smoking In Unenclosed Service Areas, Raise the Age to Purchase Tobacco Products and Require the Licensure of Tobacco Retailers to Ensure Compliance With Tobacco Control Laws.

Disaster Preparedness – Upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.

CERT is an 18-hour program to train community members to help fill the gap between a disaster or emergency, and the arrival of professional responders. Get more information on CERTS in Marin and sign up for a class at www.readymarin.org/cert. Upcoming 2018 classes: Novato: Feb 13, 20, 24; Kentfield (COM):  Mar 24, 25; Mill Valley: Apr 14, 21; San Rafael: Apr 21, 28; Nicasio May 12, 19.

Reduce food waste

Zero Waste Marin works with cities and towns throughout Marin County to educate residents about reducing the amount of waste that goes into our local landfills. Check out their holiday food waste tips here, and visit ZeroWasteMarin.org for more tips to reduce waste.

No problem! Use our “iworks” program to report an issue directly to our Public Works Department and track your request. Send a Public Works Maintenance Request.

Commission/Committee Vacancies

Fairfax residents are encouraged to serve on one of the many Town volunteer committees. For information on the committees, when they meet, terms of office, vacancies, and more, please visit the boards and commissions page.

The Planning Commission currently has a vacancy.  Persons interested in serving on the Planning Commission are encouraged to click here, fill out the application, and submit it to the Town Clerk.
