Parks and Recreation

The Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC)will meet as follows in 2008:

Feb.26, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 18, July 16, August 20, September 10,
October 8, November 12, December 10

Excluding the February meeting, PARC will meet on the second Wednesday of the month in 2008, at 7:00 p.m., at the Fairfax Youth Center, 16 Park Road.

There is currently a vacancy on the Commission for an unexpired term to April 20, 2009. You must be a resident of Fairfax to apply.

The Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) is a Town-appointed Commission which oversees fun, recreational activities in Fairfax. PARC sponsors events such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, the popular Brewfest, kid’s activities at the Fairfax Festival, the Haunted House at Halloween, a New Year’s Eve bash, and ice skating in the Pavilion. The Commission has recently partnered with the Town of San Anselmo the last two years to increase recreational programming in Fairfax. More classes are now held through San Anselmo Recreation, such as the Toddler’s Playgroup in the Pavilion during the rainy winter months, Capoeira in the Women’s Club year round, and pee wee soccer at the ball field in the Spring. Overall, Fairfax residents have access to some great resources, including Peri Park, which PARC helps maintain through quarterly clean-ups via a new parents group. The following events are scheduled for 2008: Brewfest-March 15; Easter Egg Hunt, March 22, 10:00 a.m.(Bolinas Park); April 12-Peri Park clean-up 9-11 a.m.; and the Fairfax Festival, June 14 & 15. Recreation Programming in Fairfax!

In February 2006 the Town of Fairfax signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Town of San Anselmo Recreation Department for their assistance/expertise and resources to help develop and expand recreation programming for our community in Fairfax facilities (Pavilion, Youth Center, and Women’s Club)and parks. Working in collaboration with the Fairfax Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC), the two towns are partnering to build and enhance recreation programming in Fairfax. For current programs available, check out the current Recreation Guide mailed to all Fairfax residents three times a year or go to the following web site: www.townofsananselmo.org/recreation. Extra copies of the Recreation Guide are also available in the Town Hall lobby at 142 Bolinas Drive, the Youth Center and Volunteer Office at 16 Park Road, and the Fairfax Library at 2097 Sir Francis Drake Blvd.

Additionally, the Fairfax PARC is looking for input from the Fairfax community on the types of recreation programs you and your family would like to see offered in Fairfax.
