Deer Park Neighborhood Traffic Calming
Prior to the reopening of Creek Road Bridge, a survey was sent to residents in the Deer Park neighborhood to solicit anonymous information about how they perceived the quality of life on their particular street of residence. The intent of the survey was to gain a better understanding of the concerns. Many residents provided quite candid views of their concerns, areas for improvement and even the survey itself. The following document is a summary of the comments extracted from the completed surveys.
Deer Park Survey Comments
A large neighborhood meeting was held with more than 50 residents in attendance. There was no consensus on how to resolve the traffic concerns for any particular street. The outcome of the meeting was to form a subcommittee that would meet on multiple occasions to collect and review data in order to make educated decisions.
Many residents volunteer to collect morning and afternoon speed and traffic volume data before and after the reopening of Creek Road Bridge. The speed surveys and traffic count data was used by the Public Works and Police Department to determine if stop signs were warranted at any intersections in the neighborhood. None of the intersections were determined to meet the minimum criteria for stop signs.
Public Works is still in need of volunteers to collect speed and traffic count data for the “after bridge opening” comparison. If you would like to volunteer, please send and e-mail to kwilkie@townoffairfax.org.
